The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Assists developing countries in their efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and foster conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (all activities commonly referred to as "REDD+") by providing value to standing forests through the FCPF Readiness Fund and Carbon Fund.

TNC and FCPF Report on Early Lessons from Jurisdictional REDD+ and Low Emissions Development

On January 26, the FCPF and The Nature Conservancy jointly released a new report, Early Lessons from Jurisdictional REDD+ and Low Emissions Development Programs, featuring eight jurisdictional REDD+/LED programs worldwide designed to reduce forest-related emissions (six of these jurisdictions have been admitted into the FCPF Carbon Fund pipeline). The joint study finds that with appropriate investment and support, jurisdictional REDD+/LED programs have the potential to become transformational models of forest-friendly development. Blog on Working at the Landscape Level to Protect Tropical Forests

In late January the FCPF participated

in the Prince of Wales' Charities' International Sustainability Unit Meeting on Forests, Climate Change and Development that brought together representatives from government, the private sector, and civil society around the goal of protecting and restoring tropical forests. This noteworthy event, which included remarks by Rachel Kyte, Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, provided a forum to build on the forests commitments announced at the UN Climate Summit. FCPF Coordinator, Ellysar Baroudy, wrote a blog on why working at the landscape level it is critical to reduce forest-related emissions. Read the blog...

Webinar on Forest Carbon Assessment in the Amazon's Indigenous and Protected Areas

55% of carbon in Amazon is in indigenous territories and protected lands, and much of it at risk. On March 5, coauthors of the paper Forest carbon in Amazonia: the unrecognized contribution of indigenous territories and protected natural areas came together to discuss their findings. The novel collaboration was led by the Amazonian Network of Georeferenced Socio-Environmental Information (RAISG) and was partially financed through at grant from the Forest Carbon Partnership Facilities' capacity building program.   Voices from the FCPF

Darlindo Pechisso, Head of Forest Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Mozambique, reflecting on the experience of Mozambique participating in the South-South Knowledge Exchange in Brazil on sustainable forest plantations:

"Experiencing how private companies can support smallholders in producing high-quality forest products was encouraging... We were also encouraged to see how forest plantations in Brazil are widely used for the production of charcoal for different uses... I will try to replicate [lessons from Brazil] in Mozambique that we should not only think of reforesting, but also about how the communities will indeed benefit from reforestation."
