TNC and FCPF Report on Early Lessons from Jurisdictional REDD+ and Low Emissions Development
On January 26, the FCPF and The Nature Conservancy jointly released a new report, Early Lessons from Jurisdictional REDD+ and Low Emissions Development Programs, featuring eight jurisdictional REDD+/LED programs worldwide designed to reduce forest-related emissions (six of these jurisdictions have been admitted into the FCPF Carbon Fund pipeline). The joint study finds that with appropriate investment and support, jurisdictional REDD+/LED programs have the potential to become transformational models of forest-friendly development. Voices from the FCPF
Darlindo Pechisso, Head of Forest Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Mozambique, reflecting on the experience of Mozambique participating in the South-South Knowledge Exchange in Brazil on sustainable forest plantations:
"Experiencing how private companies can support smallholders in producing high-quality forest products was encouraging... We were also encouraged to see how forest plantations in Brazil are widely used for the production of charcoal for different uses... I will try to replicate [lessons from Brazil] in Mozambique that we should not only think of reforesting, but also about how the communities will indeed benefit from reforestation."
