Viet Nam

One of the most important forest and biodiversity areas in Viet Nam is the country’s North-Central Coast (NCC) Region. It encompasses five internationally-recognized conservation corridors, and just under 60% of the area is forested. A significant amount of deforestation in the NCC region in recent decades has been driven by the expansion of agricultural land, mostly for rubber and cassava.

Viet Nam’s FCPF Carbon Fund Program
Program name: Viet Nam’s North Central Region Emission Reductions
Program location:

6 provinces in Viet Nam’s North Central Region

Program area: Over 5 million ha
ERPA terms: Up to $51.5 million for reductions of 10.3 MtCO2e

Viet Nam’s ER program is working to increase forest cover and quality and improve forest management and protection through forest sector investments and policy enhancement in agricultural practices. The program supports large-scale integrated forest and land use, addresses the connection between agriculture commodity production and deforestation, supports poverty reduction, and applies innovative financing mechanisms to pay for forest ecosystem services. A participatory forest management approach engages local communities and ethnic minorities in state forest management to ensure their full participation and commitment to the program and its benefits.
